Dangla, coconut, nipa and bamboo trees protect soil erosion along the Mabini River banks. ![]() ![]() The name Agno was derived from a medicinal tree "Agnocasto" commonly known as "Dangla" that grew abundantly along the swamps and banks of Balingcaging (now Mabini) River that traverses the town. Agno was founded in 1610 as a Zambal settlement when the Spanish conquistadors along with missionaries colonized the area. In 1700's, the people of Paoay, Ilocos Norte who lost their lands that sank into the Paoay Lake due to earthquake, came and settled in Agno. In 1791, Agno became a municipality of Zambales province. Public Act No. 1004 dated Nov. 30, 1903 was enacted to transfer Agno along with eight western towns to Pangasinan. ![]() ![]() << Go back |
